I’m writing to express my gratitude for the prayers and support provided for the Townsville Catholic Education Office community, following the recent devastating floods.
The financial support for the ‘Show the Love for Townsville’ initiative, inspired by Brisbane Catholic Education, has been greatly appreciated. Over $4,000 has been raised in our coordinated efforts, with $2,000 of this donated at the Diocesan Education Mass.
I would like to especially acknowledge the funds raised after the Mass by: St Therese, West Wollongong who raised over $1,000 through a St Patrick’s Day fundraiser; St Thomas Aquinas, Bowral who raised over $600 by gold coin donation at a 'crazy sock day'; and St Benedict’s, Oran Park who made a donation of $300 through fundraising within a different planned event.
Catholic Education Townsville's Executive Director Jacqui Francis has said that their information indicates that over 260 families and almost 100 staff from across 14 school communities, were seriously impacted by this event.
We very much appreciated your heartfelt actions of raising $4,000 which will be distributed to school communities where families and staff were impacted. We are very conscious of the need to provide opportunities for our schools to continue initiatives that build strength in their communities.
The staff and families of our school communities have been overwhelmed with the level of support. We are very appreciative of our relationships with Catholic Education communities from across the country. It is comforting to know that support and encouragement is nearby. — Jacqui Francis, Executive Director Townsville Catholic Education Office.
Thank you again for your generosity, as we continue to keep in our prayers the people of Townsville who have been severely impacted.
