Across the Diocese of Wollongong, the class of 2020 woke early today. With anticipation, they logged on to receive their HSC results. For 13 years, they have laughed, learned, and overcome many challenges—this year, their hard work, resilience and dedication have paid off.

More than a thousand students from our eight systemic Catholic secondary schools completed the HSC this year. More than a third of those students have been acknowledged as Distinguished Achievers, with a further six All-Round Achievers, seven Top Achievers and one First in Course.

The Director of Schools in the Diocese of Wollongong, Peter Hill, said that it’s clear the challenges presented by COVID-19 did not dull the spirits of the graduating Year 12.

“Through their academic achievements, witnessing to their faith, leading their fellow students, and reaching out to those in need, the class of 2020 has embodied the core values of Catholic education,” he said. 

“I know I speak for our principals and teachers in saying it is a bittersweet thing to bid Year 12 farewell. But our loss is the world’s gain. I know that they will take the virtues, values, attitudes and skills of their Catholic education, and—as bearers of Christ’s light—continue to brighten the lives of everyone around them.”

HSC 'FIRST IN COURSE' LIST 

First in Course lists the student or students who achieve the highest HSC result in each course. A First in Course is only awarded if the result is in the highest band possible for that course.

HSC 'TOP ACHIEVERS' LIST

Top Achievers lists the students who have achieved one of the top places and a result in the highest band possible in one or more HSC courses. 

All-Round Achievers lists the students who have achieved results in the highest band possible for at least 10 units of HSC courses. 

HSC 'DISTINGUISHED ACHIEVERS'

Distinguished Achievers lists all students who received a result in the highest band possible for one or more courses.

HSC Showcases and Exhibitions

ARTEXPRESS

ARTEXPRESS is an annual exhibition of exemplary artworks created by students for the HSC in Visual Arts. The works represent a broad range of subject matter, approaches, styles and media including painting, photomedia, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, graphic design, documented forms, textiles and fibre, ceramics, time-based forms and collections of works.

InTech

InTech is an exhibition of outstanding Major Projects from HSC Industrial Technology students.

The exhibition covers all Industrial Technology focus areas – Timber Products and Furniture, Automotive, Electronics, Graphics, Metal and Engineering, and Multimedia. The exhibition includes students’ folios that document the design, management, communication and production of their projects.

Shape

The Shape exhibition features a selection of exemplary Major Projects from HSC Design and Technology, Industrial Technology and Textiles and Design students from the 2020 HSC examinations.

Shape 2020 will open at The Powerhouse Museum, Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences on 27 February 2021.
