A record number of Catholic Education, Diocese of Wollongong (CEDoW) secondary students have been nominated for the HSC Shape and InTech showcases in 2022. The showcases celebrate exemplary work and outstanding projects in the field of Design and Technology and Industrial Technology from a state-wide field of candidates.

A total of 17 students from six CEDoW secondary schools received nominations for the showcases, highlighting the high standards achieved in our schools.

In order to be nominated, each successful student project must be of an exemplary standard and achieve a Band 6. Some of the major projects to be showcased include a solar cyclist safety vest, a floating life saving device for dogs, a COVID safe personal space monitor, and an environmental awareness book for children.

Mark Woolley, CEDoW Professional Officer - STEM and Learning Technology is delighted so many students have been recognised for their hard work and creativity.

It’s wonderful that the HSC markers have identified so many projects as being exemplary and worthy of inclusion in the SHAPE and InTech showcase events,” he said. “It’s well deserved recognition of the creativity, innovative thinking and hard work of our Design and Technology and Industrial Technology students and the commitment of their teachers. I’m excited to see how these students will use their skills to make our world a better place.”

Thomas Augustine, a year 12 student from John Therry Catholic College, describes his nomination for the InTech showcase as an “indescribable” experience.

“It is an indescribable feeling knowing your hard work and determination has paid off and other people will admire a piece of furniture made and designed by students. It reassures us that our efforts did not go unnoticed.”

“The best part about studying Industrial Technology was being able to have complete control and design over something, from the ground up and watching it come to life through your own hard work and perseverance” - Thomas Augustine, John Therry Catholic College.

Shape will open at the Powerhouse, Ultimo, Sydney from 3 March to 21 May 2023. Details on the InTech showcase will be released in the new year.

You can find a virtual tour of the Holy Spirit College Design and Technology projects, videos, photos and student descriptions of projects (including 5 Shape nominated projects) on the CEDoW TAS Support Site
