On a night of Eucharistic celebration, the Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong (CEDoW) community gathered for our annual Education Mass at St John Vianney Co-Cathedral, Fairy Meadow. The inspiring occasion also marked the official launch of the organisation’s new strategic plan, Lighting The Way 2023+, which was presented to the Bishop of Wollongong, Most Rev. Brian Mascord DD.

Five 2022 HSC graduates recently took their first step towards fulfilling a career in teaching, when each was awarded a $20,000 scholarship from CEDoW Director of Schools, Mr Peter Hill, on Friday 3rd February. 

2022 marked the fifth year of CEDoW's Environmental Education Grants program, a significant support to the ecological conversion journey of our diocesan schools.

These grants have been offered to schools since 2018 and have enabled schools to engage in inspiring, practical and affirming ecological projects that have contributed positively to our world. Each year schools are invited to apply for a grant of $2,000 for an ecological project that is connected to an action from their School Environment Management Plan (SEMP). 

'If my life were a movie…', ‘If I could invite three people to dinner, they would be …’ and ‘Today is a gift, that’s why it’s called the present’ were the topics of conversation addressed by Years 5 and 6 students at the recent annual Diocesan Public Speaking Competition Grand Final, held at St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Parish Primary School, Bowral.

275 students from Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong schools were acknowledged as Distinguished Achievers this year, with four students acknowledged as All-Round Achievers and six receiving Top Achiever recognition.

A record number of Catholic Education, Diocese of Wollongong (CEDoW) secondary students have been nominated for the HSC Shape and InTech showcase in 2022. The showcases celebrate exemplary work and outstanding projects in the field of Design and Technology and Industrial Technology from a state-wide field of candidates.

The sporting excellence of 11 outstanding student athletes from secondary schools throughout the Diocese of Wollongong were recognised at the 25th Annual New South Wales Combined Catholic Colleges (NSWCCC) Blues Award evening, held on Monday 28 November.

The Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong (CEDoW) Lighting the Way Faith and Learning Recognition Awards acknowledge the outstanding efforts of individual staff in schools and the Catholic Education Office who, in the course of their work, have been exemplary in one or more particular areas of educational endeavour.

Proudly supported by the Catholic Development Fund, the awards promote the value of professional and personal accomplishment in the ministry of Catholic education, celebrating excellence, passion, dedication of service, a love of work, and a commitment made to young people. 

Students and families from St Therese West Wollongong gathered together to celebrate more than $6m worth of student-centred refurbishments when the Bishop of Wollongong, Most Rev Brian Mascord DD, visited the school on Friday 18 November 2022 to officially bless and open the facilities.c

Last Friday evening, the CDF Sports Awards officially returned with a bang—the first live event in two years. It was a celebration of all that is great about sport in the Diocese of Wollongong and a positive advertisement of the pathways available to students and teachers. 

The evening, held at St Mary Star of the Sea College, Wollongong, attracted more than 450 guests with another 400 attending virtually. It proved to be a fitting culmination to a busy and difficult sporting year marked by extreme weather and COVID-19 restrictions.
