'Environment Matters' Blog | Teachers Meet to Care for Our Common Home, Our School

Caring for Our Common Home, Our School was the theme for the recent professional development day that gathered the WEN Contacts from across our system of schools.

This was the first time that this network of teachers have had the opportunity to meet for a whole day and participate in professional development around environmental themes and ecological conversion. Each school has a WEN Contact who co-ordinates the environmental education and action at their school and this day provided a space for them to share ideas, connect with one another and hear about some of the amazing work that is done across our diocesan schools.
The day was a most worthwhile experience that included time to unpack the newly released Environmental Education and Action Policy, presentations of wonderful and inspiring environmental stories from different schools, collaborative conversations, exploring SEMPs, Grants, resources and a site visit to the Vinnies Return and Earn facility at Unanderra.
With the theme of this year's World Environment Day being "Beat the Plastic", each person was gifted with a special CEDoW re-usable coffee cup to help spread the message that we need to not be a "throwaway" society - we have to care for each other and our planet.
Hosted by the St Pius X School community it was a very full and engaging day that left us all with an appetite for more professional development experiences in the area of ecological conversion and sustainability.
