World Earth Hour Day is coming up on Saturday the 25th of March at 8.30pm.

2017 will mark the 10th anniversary of Earth Hour as a global phenomenon. What started as an Aussie idea has grown into a global force of nature, that is now celebrated in over 172 countries and over 7,000 cities and towns worldwide. The symbolic hour has grown into the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment, with beyond-the-hour projects and initiatives happening throughout the year.

Earth Hour is a great home-grown success story: an Aussie campaign designed to draw attention to tackling global warming and get people talking about what we can do to help.

Every year, schools have helped make Earth Hour the incredible event it is.

In 2017, schools and the Catholic Education Office are invited to celebrate Earth Hour on Earth Hour Schools Day, Friday 24th March.

This year the focus is on climate change. Global warming, caused by carbon pollution from burning fossil fuels like coal, gas and oil, is having a huge impact on the world around us. It isn’t just affecting the polar ice-caps, it’s impacting the people and places we love. Look at the Earth Hour website to see how our world could change as global temperatures rise.

This year Earth Hour has partnered with Cool Australia to create a curriculum toolkit. Educators can download activities to share with children with ideas and learnings that will last a lifetime.
