We are constantly challenged to be more sustainable and Christmas can be especially challenging, but the students at St Columbkille's Corrimal have tried to address this.

This term students in Year 2 have studied a unit of work 'Purposeful Products'. As part of their studies students designed and made a Christmas Reindeer using a toilet roll from home and existing classroom materials.

They also collected corks and made Christmas Reindeer tree decorations.

After learning about traditional plastics, their production and also auditing their lunch boxes, the students studied and made sustainable bio plastic from plant products. As part of their homework they investigated plastics at home and made a purposeful product from recycled materials. They shared this for News the following week. There were some amazing products.

Year 2 had so much fun and at the same time were so engaged. They enjoyed sharing their new knowledge and skills. The enrichment students wrote letters and sent invitations to Wollongong City Council.

Hopefully, as Year 3 students they will help with a school waste audit in 2019 and continue to contribute to how the school community cares for our common home.
