'Environment Matters' Blog | St Joseph’s Albion Park: Winners at the Illawarra Green Flicks film competition!

Environmental Stewardship has been a major focus at St Joseph’s in 2017. A number of faculties, including RE, HSIE, IT, TAS and Science have explored issues to do with conservation and sustainability with students in their classes.

The newly formed War on Waste Club has led a push to make a change in the school by introducing recycling. They have also raised awareness about environmental issues, such as the amount of waste generated by the school and broader community and what students (and their families) can do to address these issues.

The WOW Club, as well as Yr 9/10 students from subject areas of IT, Geography, and Science, entered videos into the 2017 Green Flicks Competition, an annual short-film competition run by NSW Government Office of Environment & Heritage, for the youth of the Illawarra and Shoalhaven. This year, the competition was centered around the theme of ‘change’.

St Joseph's were very excited to be awarded the “Schools’ Participation Prize”, which included a $350 cheque (to be spent on more ‘green’ initiatives at St Joseph’s), a big engraved glass trophy, and a framed certificate; a very deserving outcome for the collaborative, team-work approach to learning across KLAs.

Further information about the competition, as well as a list of all finalists can be found at this website
