The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program has arrived and is well and truly underway at St Mary's Star of the Sea, Milton enabling students to learn more about where their food comes from and how to prepare yummy healthy meals.

The aim of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation is to introduce pleasurable food education to children during their learning years, in order to form positive food habits for life.

During the first half of this year, Year Five students, with the expert tuition of an experienced chef, were firstly introduced to kitchen safety and equipment. Following this the program has involved the students cooking using seasonal produce from the school garden and then finishing each lesson by coming together to share the dishes they’ve made. In the garden they have planted garlic and violets, cabbage seeds into seedling trays in the greenhouse, and weeded existing garden beds.

One of the students reported, "If I could, I would recommend this program to every kid out there. It's not just about gardening and cooking; it's about discovering new foods that I never thought I'd try. I can't wait for the next gardening session and to learn even more exciting recipes!"
