Following hot on the heels of the celebrations for Laudato Si' Week our schools celebrated World Environment Day through prayer and action, exploring the theme ONLY ONE EARTH.

At St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School, Warrawong during their morning prayer, each class presented the seedlings that they had planted during Laudato Si’ week, signifying their commitment to caring for our common home. These seedlings will be planted in the school garden to show their ongoing commitment to caring for our common home.

The students at St Brigid's Gwynneville participated in Lids4Kids Australia which collects the lids from milk and juice containers diverting them from landfill and using them to make prosthetic limbs. They have diligently collected a whopping 13,384 plastic lids for Lids4Kids Australia. "Students and staff alike have really supported this great initiative. We intend on continuing collecting lids all year," assistant principal Amy Sammut said.

Daniel T. one of the Year 6 students wrote a beautiful poem...

Home

The beautiful, vibrant oceans,
Generating foamy, magnificent waves.
Covering our earth,
Home.

The dark green, dense forests,
Filled substantially with secretive life.
Covering our earth,
Home.

Us boring civil, disgusting humans
Taking a bigger bite than we can handle

Covering our earth,
Home.

Our beautiful, luminous earth
Slowly being killed.
By us,
Our Home.

Is it too late?
Could this be the end?
Surely not...?

A letter from Pope Francis,
The sister now cries out to us!
Because of the harm we have inflicted on her
by our irresponsible use and abuse of the goods!

We can change that.

The use of the beautiful oceans can guide us!
The dark green, oxygen filled forests can save us!
The horde of humans killing the earth will show us,

Show us to value what we have,
Something that isn’t infinite,
Yet something that does not lack.

Laudato Si’
Praise be to you,
It’s YOU who recreates our home.
