'Environment Matters' Blog | Teachers Gather to Care for Our Common Home, Our Schools

WEN Teacher Contacts from across our diocesan schools recently gathered for their annual Professional Development and Formation Day, Caring for Our Common Home, Our School. Held at the conclusion of Laudato Si' Week, the day proved to be a wonderful opportunity for professional learning, professional dialogue and sharing of best practice in the areas of ecological conversion, environmental education and action.

The Wollongong Environment Network is a key group within CEDoW that contributes in a strategic, collegial and effective way to the ongoing ecological conversion of our schools. Including teachers and students, it is a network that exists to support schools respond at the local level to the global environmental challenges highlighted in Laudato Si'.

As always a highlight of the day was the sharing of environmental projects and actions from some of the WEN Contacts as they explained how their school utilised their CEDoW Environmental Education Grant.

The day also included a special acknowledgement of Sorry Day, a deep reflection on the World Environment Day theme of "Reimagine, Recreate, Restore", the Catholic Earthcare Certified Schools Program, familiarisation with the Laudato Si' Action Platform that was recently launched by Pope Francis on 25th May and information about environmental resources, events and PD opportunities.
