Sport News | Term 2, 2022 Sport Wrap

Posted 1 July 2022 by John Sparks in Sport News

As we come to the end of yet another challenging and busy term, we would like to express our thanks for the support, flexibility and communication from all our schools and in particular the individual school sports coordinators.

It has been a tough term dealing with wet weather, ground closures, postponements, venue changes and in more recent times high levels of staff and student illness. All these factors have added to administrative work at all levels, so we acknowledge and appreciate the time and energy schools have invested at a local level to allow our students so many opportunities.

Our gratitude and thanks also extend to our parents and carers who have adapted to the forever changing program and shown vital commitment to their sons and daughters. We certainly could not do our sport program without your ongoing support, so thank you!

Our primary pathway program has been in full operation with teams in rugby league, netball, hockey, football, cross-country, softball and rugby all progressing to the MacKillop level. A number of our students have been selected in MacKillop teams from these trials. As part of these MacKillop teams students have participated at the NSWPSSA championships with some students gaining selection in the PSSA state team for School Sport Australia competition. Congratulations to all our selected students.

The secondary pathways have also been busy with Wollongong teams competing in rugby league at the southern country trials, football and cross-country teams at the NSWCCC championships and recently our 16-year rugby league girls trialled for selection in the southern country team. Many students have also been involved at NSWCCC trials across multiple individual sports. A number of students have been recognised with both NSWCCC and NSW All Schools team selection this term.

Many thanks to our teachers who have been team coaches, selectors and managers for our Wollongong teams.

So, all up a very busy and successful term 2 for our Wollongong students. We will be back in action with our sports meeting in week 1 next term and hopefully into a full program of sporting events.

The CEDoW Sport team wish you and your families a happy, safe and restful holiday break. Take care!
