A voice cries out, ‘In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord… Every valley shall be lifted up and every mountain and hill be made low’,  with his arms outstretched and a glorious halo in gold leaf, the angel Gabriel is calling Mary. This is the moment Mary bows and kneels, fully realising that God has a greater plan for her. She is in full acceptance of her role and contemplates the journey that lies ahead.

The brilliant array of metallic acrylics surrounding Mary represents the sweet warmth and richness of our earth. It gives depth to the story and the soil that our blessed Mary is kneeling upon. The bright emerald and dark greens tell of the many valleys and mountains surrounding her, for God is willing to do anything for Mary. The deep red heart helps us to feel the love between Mary and her unborn child. This artwork reminds me of the beauty I see when I look at God’s creation in the hills and valleys around where I live. It reminds us that God has a plan for us and we need to trust him.
