My artwork, Holy Night, was inspired by ‘The Birth of Jesus and Visit of the Magi’ (Matthew 1:18-25, Matthew 2:9-12). I named it ‘Holy Night’ because of a Christmas song that tells of this very special night. My artwork tells the story of the camel travelling to Bethlehem for the sighting of the birth of baby Jesus. The Magi followed the star from the Eastern side of Bethlehem because they knew that it would lead them to the town where the Lord would be born. For this reason, it was important that the star stood out in my artwork.

I used acrylic paints to create the dark night sky because the Magi travelled through the night. Spray paint allowed me to make the stars a feature of my artwork. I also used yellow, red and white spray paint to create a golden glow that would have been present at the birth of Jesus. I hope that this makes the viewer astonished and in awe of this special event. The cut out mountains on double cardboard make them slightly three dimensional which makes the main focus of the camel and the Magi stand out.
