LUKE 1:26-36 “The angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth. Greetings, favoured one! The Lord is with you.”

Through my artwork I wanted to convey that the message of Mary’s faith in God is just as relevant today as it was at the time of the Annunciation. Mary sits underneath a young olive tree in an olive grove. Behind this scene is ‘Mary’s Well’, a sight of significance in the present day city of Nazareth. It is said to have been the site of the Annunciation.

I juxtaposed the past with the present in my artwork. I used a photo of ‘Mary’s Well’ in Nazareth and edited it so that I just had the outline of the photo in black and white. I took the inspiration to create this from the street artist Banksy and his wall art.

The colours used in my representation of the angel Gabriel demonstrate the awe, wonder and joy of the message that was delivered. The spirit of the angel Gabriel winds through my artwork, representative of the journey of faith, love and commitment that Mary is about to embark on by saying yes to God. We learn from Mary to have faith, strength and to always trust in God completely.
