'The Path to Jesus'
John Carolan, Year 5

My Christmas artwork was inspired by the scripture ‘The Journey to Bethlehem’ (Luke 2:3-5) and the great journey that we take in our lives. We must walk with Mary and Joseph on the path to Jesus.

There are ups and downs on this path. The path is hard sometimes, just like Mary’s journey through the hills on a donkey’s back. Some side trails look easier, but they can lead us onto the wrong track; they include the paths of selfishness and pride, thinking that you can do whatever you want to do. Through Mary we can always find the path back to Jesus.

I chose to use watercolours for my artwork. The watercolour paints blend into many different shades reflecting the range of experiences and emotions we have on the journey. The bright coloured sky signifies the coming of dawn with Jesus' birth being a new day. Jesus brings hope, joy, salvation and lifts the shadows and darkness out of our lives.
