My title, 'Scared…But Joyful' reflects the emotions of Joseph and Mary during their time of turmoil and links with the emotions that I have felt during my own time of turmoil this year.

Joseph and Mary must have been scared to embark on their long journey. The ending of their journey though, was joyful. I anticipate and hope that the ending of this year for me will too, be joyful. I truly look forward to a joyful Christmas, where I’ll celebrate the birth of Jesus with my family.

I have chosen decoupage as my medium, as the style means a lot to me, as I was taught by my Mum, who was taught by her Mother. I used holly tissue paper, as it reminds me of seeing presents wrapped up under the Christmas tree. The gold around ‘joy’ represents a newborn King. The silhouette effect is created by a fine black pen to represent the darkness. The yellow star rays covering the barn guides the Magi and the shepherd to Jesus giving them joy. I’ve used four chalk colours for the background to create a realistic night-time sky. I enjoy blending colours and creating artworks with chalk.

I am journeying through my artworks over time. I am no longer scared… just joyful.
