Celebrating Nine Outstanding Recipients of the Student Bishop’s Excellence Awards

More than just an award ceremony, the evening was a powerful reflection on what it means to lead with heart. Through open, honest and heartfelt video interviews, each student shared their personal journey, reflecting on how their faith shapes their everyday actions and drives their desire to build a more compassionate world.

Surrounded by proud family members, friends, teachers, and principals, each recipient was individually honoured for their extraordinary contributions. Their stories serve as a shining beacon of hope and a testament to the vibrant faith living within our Catholic school communities.

At the heart of the celebration were the words of encouragement shared by Tim Gilmour, CEDoW’s Acting Executive Director of Schools. Speaking to the students, families, and school leaders in attendance, Mr Gilmour offered an inspiring vision for collaborative and Gospel-inspired leadership, reminding everyone that true excellence emerges when we walk together:

"True excellence in our schools is found when leadership is both collaborative and deeply Gospel-inspired. It is not about individual accolades, but about how we work together to reflect the light of Christ in our learning and our service to one another. You are a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when faith is lived out, not just spoken about."

Offering thoughtful encouragement as the graduates prepare to step into the next chapter of their lives, Mr Gilmour urged them to remain grounded in the present while leading with courage into the unknown:

"When the way forward feels uncertain, remember that you do not need to see the whole journey to take the next step. Carry hope with you into the unknown. Lead with integrity. Stand for justice. Show compassion."
