Ruse Students Benefit from $9.18M Facility Upgrade

01 May 2026

Students at St Thomas More Catholic Parish Primary School, Ruse, are set to enjoy new and upgraded classrooms and amenities thanks to a $9.18 million investment.

The project, which included the construction of new classrooms and shared learning spaces, was officially blessed and opened by the Bishop of Wollongong, Most Rev Brian Mascord DD, on Thursday 30 April, 2026.

To meet the evolving needs of students and the growing demand for enrolments, the project included the construction of four new general purpose learning areas in a brand-new building, and the refurbishment of an additional six classrooms in an existing building. The upgrades also delivered modernised student amenities, flexible breakout spaces, and an internal shared learning area. A large undercover common area, designed to enhance the delivery of contemporary learning and teaching, has also been constructed.

St Thomas More school principal, Mrs Melissa Vella, welcomed the new upgrades which will serve the school for many years to come, and cater to expected enrolment growth in the area.

“Our new learning spaces are more than just buildings; they are an investment in the dignity and potential of every child. With thoughtfully designed classrooms and inviting outdoor environments, we are creating a place where curiosity is nurtured and collaboration flourishes. As a Catholic school, we believe in educating the whole person, and these spaces will support our community to thrive in faith, learning and wellbeing.”

Peter Hill, Executive Director of Schools said the project represents a significant investment by Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong to ensure that Catholic schools continue to meet the evolving needs of students and families.

“St Thomas More Catholic Parish Primary School is a hidden gem and the best kept secret in Campbelltown,” he said. “However, given these major improvements to enhance student learning it will be hard to keep it a secret much longer.”

The $9.18 million project was made possible through a $1.76 million grant from the NSW Government and $7.42 million from Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong and parent contributions.
