My artwork is inspired by the reading Matthew 1:18 - 25, The Birth Of Christ. I created my artwork using coloured pencils, toned paper and a paint pen. In the first image I used a grey background, to capture Mary’s emotion at the time. I believe Mary would have felt nervous and extremely anxious of the enormous responsibility she had been given. I have directed Mary’s gaze towards the sky as she reminds herself of Angel Gabriel's words “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favour with God.”  Luke 1:26-36.

For the second artwork, I created an ombrè background. The yellow is surrounding Jesus because he was God's son and the king. You can see that Mary and Baby Jesus are both calm and happy. Mary has followed God’s will and is now content. She faces baby Jesus with a calm face.

My personal connection to my artwork is knowing how much my mum loves me, so I wanted to illustrate how much Mary would have loved Jesus. I wanted joy in her face because when my mum sees me she always looks proud of who I am.
