“... and they knelt down and paid him homage” (Matthew 2:9-12).

The Magi were famous at the time baby Jesus was born. They were seen as prestigious, widely respected Holy Kings. You may even say they were ‘legends’. But despite their prestige and fame, they knelt humbly before the son of God.

Using a combination of watercolour, acrylic and paint pen on canvas, my artwork depicts a modern-day album cover of the three Magi, highlighting the way they were seen as distinguished figures and celebrated as legends of their time.

If I was alive at the time of Jesus’ birth, I imagine these men would be like today’s pop/rock stars and would be treated like our celebrities who are praised and admired. Taylor Swift, a global superstar, is currently touring the world and appearing in front of millions of people who admire and adore her. She is an inspiration to many, including me. Beyond her music, Taylor uses her fame to speak out against injustice and speak up about important issues such as gender equality. As the magi kneeled before Jesus, they inspired the people of their era to deepen their spirituality and recognise God's presence in the world around them.
