'the sunset journey'

‘The Sunset Journey’ depicts Matthew’s scripture (2:9-12), as one of the Magi undertakes his arduous journey to Bethlehem, following the ever present guide of David’s star. 

Capturing the barren conditions of Bethlehem, I used a natural palette of earth toned stone and colours that reflect the nature of the Palestinian landscape. Trees cling to dry and rocky ground and sparse tufts of grass can be seen, as the Magi makes his journey towards what will be God’s greatest gift to mankind. Long, jagged mountains display a difficult journey, as he must cross countless hills to find Jesus. 

Through the Magi’s clothing I imbued elements of wealth and superiority. Using the technique of the ‘foreground, midground and background’ method, I was able to incorporate a sense of dimension using the tool Gaussian blur. 

The Magi’s journey holds deep lessons about faith and God's guidance. Their courage, compassion and determination is what led them to our Lord, Jesus. In our own lives, like the Magi, we can find guidance, joy, and protection through faith in God. Just as they followed the star, we can follow the path of faith, trusting that God's plan for us is full of blessings.
