‘Shining Light’ is inspired by ‘The Birth of Jesus’ (Luke 2:9-14). The artwork is influenced by stained glass windows focusing on Jesus as the light of the world. Mary is a key figure as she entrusts in God's call. When my Mum had her first miscarriage, my Dad opened the scriptures randomly and ‘Matthew 14:22-36’ was presented. A part of this passage stated, "do not be afraid, believe in God and he will save you.”. I believe this is what Mary had done throughout her life, leading up to the birth of Jesus. .

The use of bright colours symbolises the joyous emotions experienced when Christ was born. I blended these colours to portray a sunrise as the birth of Jesus is a new beginning, just as a sunrise begins a new day. The bricks around the stained glass window are painted in a range of brown shades and have vines growing upon them. The vines are spreading along the wall and spreading new life amongst the bricks. The life of Jesus will spread God’s word, and change the lives of man.
