‘The journey to Bethlehem’ (Luke 2:3-5) was the inspiration for my art. It shows the reflection of the star of Bethlehem shining upon Mary and Joseph during their rough journey leading them on their way to the birth of Christ. Mary is depicted in a white veil to represent her taking extreme care of Jesus on the way, by her side is Joseph who is in strong colours as he helped and comforted Mary. I had the idea of painting the grass with a range of different golds and yellows to symbolise that God was guiding the way. I believe God will always be a guiding light for me.

My artwork is influenced by the artist Mike Moyers, an impressionist artist who makes known the beauty and wonder of life and faith. I like his techniques with acrylic paints and his rough brush strokes giving the effect of a lot of passionate feelings. I wanted to show these inspiring features in my artwork. For me in my art the roughness and lack of facial features allows the viewer to put themselves in Mary or Joseph’s shoes and feel their mixed emotions of excitement, fear and pride.
