My artwork is a piece inspired by the scripture passage ‘The Visit of the Magi’ (Matthew 2:9-12) and has been appropriated from the original artwork titled The Three Wise Men Portrait (Artist unknown - Etsy DlaLunaPR). I created my artwork using fine liner pens and used mainly lines as shading. The reason I chose black was because I feel that before Christ was born the world was black and white but when the star came it shone upon the world bringing colour and life to the world. “When the star from the east stopped over where the child was, they were overwhelmed with joy”.

I was inspired by the original artwork and the fact that the Magi were on a side perspective and appeared to be looking at the star which relates to my title ‘Following The Star’. I wanted to ensure the viewer could tell the Magi were focused on something in the direction of the east, ‘the star’.

My personal connection to the story is how they were looking at the star which was something extraordinary and the realisation of a miracle of the gift from heaven and God. This relates to my name, Etheriel, meaning heavenly and seeming to belong to another world. The Magi had faith in the star leading them to something extra special.
