My artwork is inspired by The Birth of Jesus, Matthew 2:9-12. “The child” was a phrase that I reflected upon when reading this passage. The child is innocent and pure like the lamb I have depicted in my artwork. The lamb not only represents innocence but also sacrifice, as Jesus, when he grows up, will also be crucified for our sins.

I created my artwork using a variety of graphite pencils ranging from 2B to 8B and white charcoal for the highlighted glow around the baby and the lamb. I used a range of techniques such as shading from light to dark to present tone and detailed pencil work to show the minor details that I have put in my artwork, such as the fine wavy hairs on the lamb and baby’s hair.

I chose to depict baby Jesus and the lamb in my artwork because it is reflective of new life and joy. In addition to this, I admire the small and chubby arms of a newborn baby and therefore represent my admiration through the arms of baby Jesus, with adorable rolls in his arms.
