My artwork is inspired by the scripture passage, the Birth of Christ from Matthew 1:18-25. This image portrays the emotions of love and joy that connect Mary and Joseph at the birth of their newborn son.

I connected with this story because I remember my mum telling me about how she felt when I was born. She had a mixture of emotions because she was a mum for the first time. My mum experienced the beauty of motherhood because she was overwhelmed with love, joy and happiness. There was a strong connection with my mum from the day I was born.

Sketching is the artistic technique I used because it allowed me to refine and communicate in detail my design ideas. Crying often connects people, whether it's out of grief, love, passion, or another strong emotion. The tears in the eyes of Mary and Joseph are emotional tears that made them more vulnerable to each other. Using graphite pencils of various shades gave the artwork a light and shade texture. The tiny hands depicted in the image represents the baby Jesus reaching out to his parents. The star represents the light that the Saviour’s birth brought to the world!
