We can only imagine the emotions that Mary was feeling during ‘The Flight to Egypt’, when Jesus was in severe danger - envied by King Herod. The anxiety and fear must have been unbearable. Therefore the passage I chose for my artwork is Matthew 2:13-15. I chose this passage because I admire the courage that Mary and also Joseph maintained during this grim time, and how they trusted God despite it all. I wish to take inspiration from them when I face struggles in my own life.

I have painted a fearful Mary, capturing the emotions on her face when she was told the news about fleeing. Acrylic paint is my medium, and the bold colours show the courage that Mary had through the darkness. I also painted Mary in bold blue and the background in dark shades to represent how she never gave up hope even when she may have felt like it.

Courage and trust are significant qualities to own. I hope I can continue to look up to Mary as a role model and have faith in God just like her.
