My artwork is inspired by the scripture passage, “The Birth Of Christ” from Matthew 1:18-25. I have created an image of Mother Mary holding baby Jesus. In the background are mountains, the Star of Bethlehem and text that relates to the Nativity story.

My artwork is called “A Mother's Love” and it has a connection to me because when I was born, my mother held me in her arms and looked down at me lovingly. In the passage, it says “And he gave him the name, Jesus.” My mum gave me the name Abigail as it means “brings joy”. Jesus also brought joy to not just his mother but also to the world, enlightening so many lives.

My faith is deepened through the passage as I can imagine how Mary felt when she gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. She would’ve felt overwhelmed with happiness and love. It leads me to appreciate how God sent his only son to Earth to look over his people and to make a path for us to heaven. I used bold colours to express the depth to which Mother Mary loved her son.
