I have chosen to do my artwork in reference to Luke’s Gospel, Journey to Bethlehem. I have purposely illustrated my artwork on wood because it symbolises a deep connection between the manger, the stable and the journey Jesus would undertake for all of us. Using wood as my medium also helped me connect to how humble Mary, Joseph and Jesus were. That is what I wanted to communicate in my artwork, the humility and simplicity of our Saviour’s birth.

I digitally created the image and had it laser cut into the wood. I then painted specific aspects of the image. The lights in each of the town’s windows represent how Jesus would become for us a guiding light and a beacon of God’s Grace.

I gave a 3D effect to the artwork by glueing on different shades of brown and grey rocks, to draw attention to the remarkable journey that Joseph and Mary embarked upon to Bethlehem. Their journey shows us that sometimes we have to do things that might be challenging or inconvenient, but they're important in the bigger picture.

The birth of Jesus was such a profound and spectacular moment filled with expectation. I have felt the same expectation in the lead up to my younger siblings' births, each of which has been a true blessing to our family.
