'Mary’s Path'
Molly Hertsch, Year 5
St Pius X Catholic Parish Primary School, Unanderra

I chose the Bible passage, ‘Journey to Bethlehem’ Luke 2:3-5. Mary and Joseph travelled to Bethlehem from Nazareth to be registered. This was a wearisome and difficult journey as Mary was soon expecting her baby. We all have our own journeys to travel and can often take a path that may be challenging and immense. My artwork reflects the different paths that can be taken in our lives. The collage brings together these images as an inspiration for us to see the beauty in our hardships.

My artwork is a collage of photos I took of pathways around our local area. In the centre of my artwork is a dramatic black acrylic silhouette of Mary and Joseph on their journey to Bethlehem. I also used natural bark from local paths to complete the image in 3D form. I chose to complete my artwork in this way as I enjoy outdoor hikes with my family and taking photos of our journeys.
