Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to egypt

This was a phrase that truly stuck with me from Matthew 2:13-15, “The Flight to Egypt.” It represents not only Mary and Joseph’s courage and trust in God, but allows the viewer to realise the support and vital role the donkey played in this journey. When this creature is looked upon, it is seen as pitiful and insignificant.

I created this artwork as a tribute to the donkey. I believe if you look beyond his crooked smile, his bristle-like fur, past his clouded eyes and large head you can really see the beauty and remarkable duty that he holds. I hope that my artwork provides this donkey with the opportunity to shine and that others can learn not to judge this hero, or anyone, by their appearance or reputation.
