My artwork reflects the scripture passage Matthew 2: 9-12 where the Magi were overcome with joy on their journey to Bethlehem. Chalk pastels were used to create the streamline shaped sandy desert dunes that the Magi travelled along while following the glowing star towards Bethlehem. The illuminated star represents hope. Without this glowing light, the men would have lost their way. They held onto their faith to get them through. In Bethlehem, the Magi would meet the newborn king and present him with their gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

The artwork has been cut into tiles to create a window effect. As I look through the stained glass windows of my parish church, the glow represents the life of Jesus our Saviour.  Each tile is mounted on wood to represent the timber used to shelter the newborn King in the stable. The story and my interpretation shown through my artwork reminds me of the season of Advent where we are patiently waiting for the birth of Jesus, and the excitement and the anticipation it makes me feel.
